Residence Permit is the most important document that enables you to legally reside in China and pursue your studies. International students with X1 visa shall apply for Residence Permit from the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau within 30 days after arrival in China. Late applicants are deemed to be guilty for illegal stay and imposed the penalty prescribed by the law.

 

Documents to be submitted in the Immigration Office

1. Visa and Residence Permit Application Form

2. Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (both the original copy and the photocopy)

3. Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors (both the original copy and the photocopy)

4. Receipt of Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province and 1 printed blue-background ID photo

5. Valid passport, copies of passport personal information page, valid visa and latest entry stamp pages 

6. Admission Notice (both the original copy and the photocopy)

7. Printed JW202 Form

8. Qualification Interview for Residence Permit (Student Visa)

9. Letter of Guarantee

 

Notes：

1. Documents No.1-8 are prepared by students themselves. 

2. Document No. 9 will be issued by the university upon receiving document No. 1; both No. 1 and No. 9 need to be stamped with the university seal.

3. If there are special circumstances requiring submission of other Documents, please provide relevant Documents as required by the Immigration Office of Shenzhen Public Security Bureau.

Prepare Document No. 1: Visa and Residence Permit Application Form

(1) Make an appointment on the website http://ga.sz.gov.cn/ or through “Shenzhen Gongan” Wechat official account. Fill in the relevant information and schedule a suitable time for yourself.

VISA AND RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION FORM

 

 

Prepare Document No. 9: Letter of Guarantee

Please bring the relevant documents to the designated location to collect the stamped Application Form and Letter of Guarantee as required.

Prepare Document No. 2: Physical Examination Record for Foreigners

To apply for a Study Residence Permit, a medical examination report is required. Please go to the following hospital to complete the medical examination. The report could be collected after 5 working days after the examination and is valid for six months.

① Passport and copies of passport personal information page, valid visa and entry stamp pages

② Admission Notice (both the original copy and the photocopy)

③ Printed JW202/201 Form

④ Three blue-background colored photos of two inches

 

Notes:

(1) Do not drink alcohol before the physical examination.

(2) Prepare all the required documents before you go.

Prepare Document No. 3: Registration Form of Temporary Residence for Visitors

(1) Scan the QR code on WeChat.

 

(2) Click “Start Declaration”, fill in the information as required and go to the next step until the declaration is successfully submitted.

Note that the “Household number” in the current residence information must be obtained by “SCANNING” the house QR code. If you cannot find the QR code for the household number, please contact the property management office or the landlord. Manually entering the number may not valid.

(3) Check the system about the status. When it shows “APPROVED”, please go to the police station to collect the stamped paper copy.

 

Note: The property management office in the student dormitory area may also register or collect stamped copies for new students according to the requirements of the local police station. Please follow the instruction when you check into your student apartment.

Prepare Document No. 4: Receipt of Visa Photograph for Foreigners in Guangdong Province

On the designated registration day, the university will provide photo taking services at the registration site, and the cost will be borne by the students themselves (around 45 RMB). Students who have postponed their registration need to go to the photo studio to take photos on their own. Along with your photo receipt, ask the photo studio to print 8 blue background photos for you. The receipt is valid for one year. It could be used for several times, try not to lose it.

 

You can go to any qualified photo studio. The following one is just for your reference.

Prepare Document No. 8: Qualification Interview for Residence Permit (Student Visa)

Please fill the form (refer to the Attachment) before going to the Immigration Office.

 

Go to the Immigration Office to submit your Documents

Bring relevant documents (copy in advance) and go to Shenzhen Immigration Office at the scheduled time.

The processing time is about 10 to 15 working days. The Immigration Office will notify the student to collect in person when it’s ready.

Update Information

After receiving the residence permit, please update the information of your residence permit in the International Student Service System (Information Update→Residence permit), and go to the local police station where you are accommodated to renew the Registration Form of Temporary Residence within 24 hours.
