SHENZHEN, China, August 31 – A team from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen (HITSZ) has secured the National First Prize at the 16th China Undergraduate Physics Tournament (CUPT), marking its fifth consecutive victory in the prestigious competition. The team also excelled, taking home two “Best Research Awards” and four “Best Image Awards.”

Held over three days of intense competition at Inner Mongolia University, this year’s CUPT attracted nearly 300 university teams from across China. The HITSZ team’s success was built on months of dedicated preparation, including in-depth literature research, meticulous experiment design, and regular strategy sessions under the guidance of faculty advisors.

During the tournament, the students impressed judges and peers from other universities with their strong theoretical foundations and well-crafted experimental designs. The winning team was composed of undergraduates from various disciplines including Robotics, Computer Science, Materials Science, and Economics & Management.

The CUPT is widely recognized as one of China’s top academic competitions for undergraduate physics students. It challenges participants to master the full spectrum of scientific research, from theoretical analysis and experimental design to presenting and defending their findings. The tournament’s team-based format, which includes academic reports, discussions, and debates, is instrumental in fostering critical skills such as teamwork, coordination, and communication among the next generation of scientists.
