SHENZHEN China, August 20 – A team from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen (HITSZ) has secured a Second Prize at the 5th National University Teaching Innovation Competition, marking the best result in the campus’s history. The national finals of the competition concluded recently at the Beijing Institute of Technology.
The winning team, led by Professor ZHAO Yi is from the College of Frontier Sciences, HITSZ. The group was recognized for pioneering an exclusive AI agent for specialized fields in China, named “Xiao Bai Tongxue” (Little Bai). This AI-powered tool enables cross-model, cross-terminal, and multi-scenario teaching applications, serving as a cornerstone for AI-driven educational reform. In their mathematics courses, the team has used the agent to redefine the interactions between teachers and students, exploring a new “teacher-student-AI” pedagogical model.
Guided by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education and hosted by the China Association of Higher Education, the competition this year featured 32 regional zones, covering all undergraduate universities and academic disciplines nationwide.
After receiving months of expert coaching from HITSZ, the team’s success will now serve as a model to drive further teaching innovation and educational quality at the university, an official announced.
